I have read all these posts with some interest. Yes Teddy building and 
engineering an FMIC is that difficult. Have you ever seen a core cut into? Its a 
real mess. Welding the end tanks is also a major challenge because of thickness 
differences in the relatively thick end tank material and thin I/C core itself 
with its existing heat bonded welds. Although I've never built one myself, 
I've spent a good amount of time with Brooks at ASW and Dave Stone to really 
appreciate the art and engineering of what they do. I have probably spent close to 
$3000 getting my FMIC dialed in and would have loved only spending $2000 for 
a plug and play example that's as well engineered as these.

Given all these thoughts another possible avenue would be a set of 2 I/Cs 
that would include the stock unit. You could have a small 3.5x24x6 FMIC that 
would be your primary and then feed that into the stock I/C which would be your 
secondary. The issue here is the pressure losses involving 2 I/Cs. You'd be 
expanding the charge air into the 1st I/C then contracting it at the exit hose and 
then going through that again with the 2nd I/C. I was ready to go with this 
type of set-up when Mike pederson and Dave Jones talked me out of it many years 
ago. Given a strong enough turbo I don't think it would be too much of an 
issue.
