[s-cars] AC question... R12, how much and versus R13

Hi people.

Hey I'm finally getting my for sale car back together after my little
misshap with the metal door. Doh....  Anywho, I had recently replaced the AC
compressor on that car and it definitely needs a refill.  I've got two
questions. First one is, how much "stuff" do our systems hold ? Second
question is, the old "stuff" (R12) is VERY expensive, IF you can find it,
and now I'm being told there's nothing wrong with just throwing the new
stuff (Rwhatever) in. I've been told it won't be as cold but it's ok on the
seals etc contrary to what I had always thought.  Whats the deal ?

Anyone simply refill with the new stuff ?
