[s-cars] AC question... R12, how much and versus R13

AFAIK, the new "stuff" is R134A and is not compatible with R12 systems.
The R134A will leak past the seals and it is not as efficient as the R12
and may require either a new evaporator or condensor. Converting to
R134A is not a simple job and can get expensive.
Did you replace the compressor yourself? If so, did you drain the
system? The proper way is to remove all traces of R12 from the system,
test for leaks, fix leaks then add the specific amount of R12. If you
did not do this, you have no way of knowing how much to add and you
could overcharge the system.
This is not really a DIY job unless you have the equipment, but if you a
DIY kinda guy, R12 is available on ebay for $30/lb last time I checked.
