[s-cars] An interesting FMIC "fact" (?)

100% accurate Dave. I run my VMAP at 2.9 bar instead of 3.0 due to SoCal's $hitty 91 octane (I live in the hills north of Malibu Ca). Did I say the gas was $hitty? It is also $2.45 gal. Did I say how $hitty it was? I don't think the FMIC is going to improve this alot. Some, but not alot. In other words, I'll probably stay at 2.9 bar post FMIC. WI is probably to follow the FMIC (the FMIC aluminum piping makes this a no-brainer), then on to the 3.0 bar jumper settings.

The VMAP-D is really a great invention. Cody runs his at 2.8 bar due to altitude. It is really neat. Custom S/W would be better I'm sure, but that fact that you CAN turn down/up the boost is a great addition to the tunability of the car.

If you are running say the MTM chip for the RS2 turbo/EM and Stock Injectors/MAF, and are pinging, get Water Injection, or add the RS2 Injectors and MAF and Pastore/VMAP/RS2/26 psi software (but then you might need/want an FMIC).

Since he is CA, he's presented with a somewhat different situation than those not in CA... gas formulation. CA has different formula requirements than every other state. I used to travel to LA on a fairly regular basis. When I had time, I'd drive because I enjoy it. I was always surprised about the amount of knock I would experience there, when every other place I went (sea level or not) I didn't have an issue. My car is all the RS2 stuff with the VMAP and above mentioned software. I have been in better than 25 states with my car, and haven't had knock issues anywhere except CA.

Cooling his charge temps will help with this issue, but he might need to look into having his software modded for a few degrees less timing. Better yet, take a tanker truck down to Mexico and fill 'er up with Pemex Magna... best fuel I've ever had in my Audis!
