Thanks Bob, that's what I have as well, in fact the correction out a few more 
places (hey you get almost another pony:)

SAE HP to DIN HP =  (SAE HP) x .9863201
DIN HP to SAE HP =  (DIN HP) x 1.0138697 

I like the MTM over the pond rounding factor....

SAE ponies are smaller than DIN ponies so it takes more of them to do the 
same work.

1 SAE = 0.986 DIN  therefore:

269 DIN ponies (IIRC the number) = 269/0.983 = 272 SAE ponies
(not the 280 quoted by Hoppen et al).
