I know you said no leaks, but are you totally sure that nothing is coming
out of the half-circle filler plug on the back of the head?  If you haven't
taken extraordinary measures to seal this thing, it will most likely leak.
And if you don't check it immediately after shutting down the engine, the
evidence slithers away and distributes itself on the back and bottom of the
engine.  I was using about a quart per thousand miles and convinced myself
several times that this thing wasn't leaking.  After putting on a new valve
cover gasket and sealing the half-circle with silicone during the
installation, I use a half of a quart or less between 6000-mile changes.
The engine has 151K miles.
