Yes, the belly pan contributes somewhat to all those things, however, it is
not real serious that it is missing, but I would replace it if I was you.
What has likely happened is that some place doing the oil changes didn't put
it back on. It's a bit of a PITA everytime you do an oil change. Lube
joints often charge an extra $20 to remove it and put it back. Price at the
dealer for the belly pan should be around $100 IIRC. Some people have
installed a Fumoto valve to make changing oil easier. Check their website,

I recently purchased a 93 S4 and noticed there is a missing "shield"
beneath the front of the car. I'm wondering what this is for. Is it
