If you are in Switzerland, it was for "sound attenuation," everywhere else
in the world it is commonly thought, it is to (a) help funnel more air
through your intercooler; (b) help your gas mileage, maybe; (c) keep things
a bit cooler & cleaner under the hood and around the transmission; or (may
listers suspicion) (d) confound the monkey boys at Jiffy Lube and Grease
Monkey, so that (e) if you insist on using their services, to insure your
local Audi dealer's Parts Department will in due course, get to extract
Audi's just & due pound of flesh when you have to come back to Audi to have
the part replaced after it flies off (usually @ 75 to 80 mph, based on
carefully observed experimentation.)

~I recently purchased a 93 S4 and noticed there is a missing "shield"
~beneath the front of the car. I'm wondering what this is for. Is it
~for aerodynamics, cooling, protection, or what?
