OK, After a long battle with my new big reds and squealing like dying cats
over and over again with the ABS acting up due to the vibration, I have
figured it out. I went to the local Porsche dealership for some Textars to
replace my local euro parts supplier provided Pagid factory replacemnt pads.
On my way in I asked a tech on how to solve the squealing. I had already
chamfered the leading and trailing edges of the pad material and used
factory Porsche pad dampeners. The tech said to apply anti seize compound to
the leading and trailing edges of the backing plates as well as the contact
point of the spring clip that hold the pads in place on top. Very little is
needed he said. They, Porsche, have some cool $30 a toothpaste tube of
special copper anti seize but I just used my regular Napa stuff I had at
home. IT WORKED, on the Pagid pads I had already installed. No squealing,
graoning, moaning and no ABS kick in. Thank goodness. Hope that helps
someone. Now for my questions.
Tom at ECS Tuning told me I would be unhappy with Mintex Red Box for the
street. Why? I didn't get a chance to ask him. I think they would be better
than factory Porsche pads or the Pagid replacements I have in there for bite
and definitly far LESS dust. Any BTDT's? I have Mintex C-Tech Blue 1144 for
the track that provide the bite that I want on initial braking that the
factory pads do not, but boy do they make noise. Do you think I can get the
C-Tech's to stop making noise with the same anti-seize trick? What pads are
you running? I am looking for the initial bite of a easy track pad, with NO
noise and less dust than the Porsche pad. To me that sounds like Mintex Red
Box. I know that I am asking for the ultimate comprimise, but I am really
only interested in the best pad for the street. I don't have any intention
of taking it back to the track. Too much work and I already have a track
car. Thanks in advance and as always, feel free to email directly.
