Hello again Audifans,
After a two year hiatus, I am now a quattro owner again. And boy, did I fall hard. Seduced I was.
I had decided a while back to look for ~$10k A4q, when I spotted the original owner 1994 S4 in the paper. Last Sunday, for unknown reasons, I actually had time to look for a car, this one was close by, so I went to look.
The car:
- 1994 S4 Pearl/Black
- 61000 miles
- Original owner (retired mid-fifties lawyer, NO kids) trading in for a 2004 S4 Avant (the previous model S4 did not interest him).
- Dealer maintained, all records in perfect chronological order
- Never chipped or modified in any way
Exterior:
- One chip in OEM windshield.
- Three small stone chips in the front, NO other exterior flaws. Not a scratch or ding. None. Zip.
- New Michelin A/S Pilots on flawless (absolutely) OEM five spokes.
Interior:
- Perfect interior, with barely detectable bolster wear on the driver's seat. The seat rails are clean. I couldn't even find dust.
Electrical:
- Everything works...except I did not test the IR remote...DOH!
- Factory phone intact.
- 10 Disc Bose works fine
- Antenna mast broken (does not extend), motor works.
Mechanical check on lift by Audi wrench:
- One screw missing on front pan
- No leaks anywhere
- Brakes 85%
- Slight rub on lower IC hose at front pan.
- No bottom out scratches/dents or corrosion anywhere
This car was mostly garaged during inclement weather, because that made it "dirty". For that, the PO drove his "dirt metallic" GMC Suburban. The garage, BTW, was immaculate, and attached to a $million+ house. The S4's stablemate was a black 95 S6 Avant, 14k miles.
This guy was incredibly anal, so I paid top $ for a top car.
Seduced I was.
Audi content:
- This engine has never been touched. The timing belt/rollers/wasserpump will be done soon. How much more complex is this than a 4000Q? I am mechanically competent, with a complete tool set.
- At this time, the cooling system/brake lines will also be flushed.
- Besides the above, what else should I "freshen" on an otherwise perfect ten year old car? What pitfalls await? The Audigods were very good to me with my 4000Q, which went effortlessly to 280K.
I can see perhaps putting an Eibach prokit and a chip/WG spring on in the future, but for now this car, to me, is perfect just the way it is.
All input is appreciated.
Regards,
Craig Lebakken
