I've had several optima red-tops and I'd say that the only really good thing
about them is the fact that they have an excellent direct replacement
warranty - 5yrs w/ $0 payment. Most batteries advertise 72months etc., but
in reality if you go back after more than a year or so there is a scaled
payment that you have to pay to get your replacement. Well, after about 1
year and 3 months the payment you pay is about the same as the cost of
another battery. So, at least with the optima I can trade the sucker in for
%100 value and get another one handed to me. There's also the fact that they
sell Optimas at flaps now, so if you have a problem with it on a trip you
can likely find somewhere to get it replaced. Or, in my situation, if you
have a drain that kills the battery in a few days and you've never been able
to isolate it, you can get another battery after a year of nonstop draining
it.
