[s-cars] RS2 Turbo or Innovative Turbo's K26/RS2++?

Rokas,
an RS2 turbo starts spooling up higher in the RPM range than a stock turbo,
meaning that where the stock turbo gives full boost around 2200-2500 RPM in
the lower gears, the RS2 gives boost (not full boost though, because of the
surge line in the compressor map) at around 2600-2800 RPM in the higher
gears. Full boost is ok to be had around 3000 RPM, but the real kick comes
in at around 4000 in the lower gears. IMO it is not a problem, it's just a
matter of shifting gears accordingly. IMO, if you have a 20vt and like to
drive it from 2000 to 4000 RPM, get a TDI, they have soooo much more torque
down low.... or a big block V8 with a slushbox :-))))
Now, the point is that a K24 gives a bit of boost (even when chipped, the
boost levels aren't so high because of the tiny shaft that this turbo has,
as well as due to the compressor limits themselves), but an RS2, even if it
gives boost higher in the RPM range, gives much more boost. The difference
is quite easy: 310-330 lb/ft of torque for a K24 running at its reliability
limits and 400-440 lb/ft of torque for an RS2 turbo.... when dyno runs are
being done in 4th gear in both cases, this means 2700-2900 RPM for the K24
and 3400-3600 for the RS2....
HTH,
Mihnea
