[s-cars] was: Fuzz logic vs adaptive learning; now function integration

Great link Joe about the guy that put in the 7" LCD computer set up. He should really package that thing up and start selling it. Getting a run of molded adapter plates would not be prohibitive, and certainly better than sniffing bondo for four days. As for our cars (C4's), I have to agree with Bill that Audi put way too much on emphasis on pretty, and said to hell with functionality. I have been looking at the dash of my new (to me) 94S4, and am disappointed in two things:

1.) That clock is very lovely, but I would rather have had it incorporated into the radio, and in its place a more worthwhile gauge; like boost(preferably)or a volt meter.

2.) Having that front and center inch square window telling me what station I am listening to or what CD and what track is playing is decidedly NOT Audi. What a waste. Someone at Audi must have been just looking for something to do.

That said......

Has anyone replaced the clock with a voltmeter from a euro S4? A boost gauge? Seems like it would be easy to do.

I have also been looking at the three (or was it four?) blank switch spaces on the console, and wondering if something could be done with that real estate. I have access to CAD systems, NC programming, and plastic molding capabilities. Nuke the blanks, and replace with a matching adapter plate that houses an Andial boost gauge with IC inlet and outlet temps. I think that would be pretty easy to do, and not toooo expensive.. It would have to look stock in my book though. It sure would be worthwhile; when these cars hiccup, a boost gauge usually shows it.

PS I like the last post on Audiworld asking the guy who put the computer together for STEP BY STEP instructions on how to make it ALL work "flawlissley". Sheesh.
