[s-cars] Cracked Oil Pan - insurance

Mark (and everyone else),

>From an insurance standpoint they expect us to maintain 100% control of
our cars and as such avoid all potholes, etc. If you file a claim they
will want to find you at fault for this accident. What this would
normally mean is an increase in your auto insurance rates.

Key point here, if the snow covered rock you hit was moving, and not on
the ground in one place they consider it to be a missile. This they do
not expect you to be able to avoid, and consequently you are not found
at fault for this accident. 

How do I know you might ask, I hit a wooden 4 x 6 bouncing down the
highway about 2 years ago. After one year of arguing my case (on and
off) I finally got somebody who understood the difference between a
moving object and a pothole. Result was a refund in overpaid premiums
and a decrease in my premium payments.

Hope this information helps others out.
