[s-cars] Cracked Oil Pan - insurance

Yep, I placed a claim on this one. Gave them the story and interestingly
enough they said that this will fall under collision coverage because I
actually saw the object in the road. Seems if I told them I did not see it
they would have put this under comprehensive coverage. Appears they would
prefer that the driver not watch the road and run into whatever he/she
wants. OOps sorry, I did not see that Yukon stopped at the light.
Comprehensive claim please.

It is all a game in my estimation and if you know the business you don't get
shafted too bad when you actually need to use your insurance.

Mark

P.S. I'm with Geico.

P.P.S. Thanks for all that responded to my plea.

Mark (and everyone else),

>From an insurance standpoint they expect us to maintain 100% control of
our cars and as such avoid all potholes, etc. If you file a claim they
will want to find you at fault for this accident. What this would
normally mean is an increase in your auto insurance rates.

Key point here, if the snow covered rock you hit was moving, and not on
the ground in one place they consider it to be a missile. This they do
not expect you to be able to avoid, and consequently you are not found
at fault for this accident.

How do I know you might ask, I hit a wooden 4 x 6 bouncing down the
highway about 2 years ago. After one year of arguing my case (on and
off) I finally got somebody who understood the difference between a
moving object and a pothole. Result was a refund in overpaid premiums
and a decrease in my premium payments.

Hope this information helps others out.

Chris
