[s-cars] How do I stop a line crack in my windshield?

I have heard reports that when the monkeys replace the glass, they scare the
ever-loving crap out of the paint on the side of the pillars and roof area
due to the adhesive they use.
This leads to premature rust in the areas where the paint is scratched off.
You should try to inspect and repair these areas prior to them installing
the new glass.
I have a replacement windshield, and also have rust damage in a few places
around the windshield.
Just something to think about

You don't. You get it replaced with new glass. To stop a spreading crack,
you would need to relieve the point load that's causing the crack. This is
done in metal by drilling a hole at the end of the crack, so the load gets
spread out around the circumference of the hole. Tough to do in glass,
particularly as it would leave a hole (leak) in your windshield, and the
load is so localized that the hole would need to be fairly large.
In MA, glass has no deductible, and doesn't raise your premium. If you get
it done under your insurance, make sure the glass used is a brand you
recognize, and that it has all the features you need, like a VIN window. I
had three windshields put in my Coupe quattro under my insurance policy; the
first two were whatever NAGS paid for, the last was OEM, and about $20 more.
The adjuster balked, until I pointed out a) this was the third NAGS
windshield he'd paid for, b) I was happy to have them keep replacing cracked
NAGS windshields , and c) an OEM one was only about $20 more. Light dawned
over Marblehead, so to speak, and he went for the OEM windshield.
