[s-cars] breaking in brakes

I am installing new Zimmermans and Mintexs soon and was wondering, what is the procedure for breaking in the new components.  I've read about the process of braking to nearly a stand still from increasing speeds, although the suggestion from the manufacturer is to simply avoid heavy braking for 300 miles.  It's my first brake job and would appreciate any seasoned wisdom from the list.
