Mark:  I always use wide/slip jaw water pump pliers and the old pad to push in
the Brembo pistons.  I protect the face of the caliper with something (thin
piece of wood or cardboard) and just gently squeeze.  As others have noted,
having the cap off the reservoir helps as does monitoring the level so you don't
over top it (BTDT - merde!)  Works very well, one pad at a time.  No biggy.  /
