[s-cars] Erratic Gas Gauge

Ed,
I had this same problem, the sender in the fuel tank has a wire that
goes down to the float, it is frayed and breaking. Get into your trunk
and pull up the carpet so you can get to the locking ring at the top of
the tank.
Remove the 3 screws to allow you to take off the cover. Now disconnect
the hoses and wires to the top of the sender, and then using a large
screwdriver or chisel with a hammer and remove the ring. You can then
lift out the sender and will see the wire I am describing, you will
need to replace the wire to "fix" it. But for a quickie repair I
twisted mine together real tight and it's been working for 8 months
now.
Installation is simply reverse of disassembly.
