[s-cars] Stereos and ride quality

Have you considered that there may be suspension improvements/fixes that
need
to be done?

Are the shocks worn out? If they are, the ride quality will suffer.
Also, going
to a lighter wheel than the OEM Avus will improve ride quality by
reducing unsprung
weight. Finally, the tires will make a big difference- Dunlop SP9000 or
8000 are
pretty stiff sidewalled tires- you'll have to go to an all-season to go
softer,
though. Try BFG G-Force KDWS, Kumho ASX, Toyo Proxes4, etc.

By going to an outboard amp and aftermarket speakers, you can tap the
lineouts from
the back of your headunit, feed a good outboard amp and do at least
5.25" speakers
in each of the doors. The stock sub is in the cargo area, you'll have to
yank that
and get a custom enclosure in fiberglass to fit that location, then
mount an amp to
the enclosure to power the sub.

It can be done, just time consuming and the sub in the stock location
will start getting
expensive.

I don't know what your tastes are in sound quality- I like a/d/s amps
and speakers,
although Focal, Boston Pro, MB Quart Competition and some others are
really nice as well.

OK I am a newbie here so excuse me if I am asking questions that are
commonly
answered. I did look in the archives and realize I should be asking how
to
make the car more aggressive instead...

Living in NYC where the roads are at best horrible, at worst wheel
destroying, my family finds my new to me 2001 s4 avant a very harsh
ride. It came with
Dunlap SPXXX's that are inflated to 35 pounds which seems to be fairly
low.
Would a new set of softer tires help here? Enough?

Part 2 is - the car came with that Bose option stereo and I am sure a
lot of
you like Bose and one of the cars I looked at the guy raved about the
stereo,
but the fact is Bose is the Boston Market to other car manufactures
Macdonalds. I am not that happy with it. However, never having a car
newer then 1985
before I wonder how I can cram a good stereo in the small custom places
they put
the manufacturers one? I don't want custom boxes, I hate those sub and
amp in
a tube thing. I want to start by just replacing some of the speakers and

having less of them. Where is the amp anyway? Are the two rear seat kick
panel
speakers the subs? I am after good sound by the way not something overly
bass-y or
anything, just so you don't think I am looking to set off car alarms
with my
stereo.

Thank you so much for allowing m to break into your regularly scheduled
program. And for any advice you might offer.

Yale
