Folks,
I wimped out and left the pig at a real mechanic for sachs race clutch
install over vaca. This consists of an S2 steel flywheel, 4 puck metal
disc with no baby boo boo spings and a pressure plate that actually
requires some oomph to operate. Had a main seal leak.. something about
the pinion being improperly aligned:/ IME (for those with unburied
wallets;) this is thee clutchy, grabby, 4000lb pig launching device of
choice. Still breaking in but suddenly the beast is quite capable off
the line and thoughts of the 7000 rpm launch keeps running through this
sic little brain.
So inspiring this was that I changed the oil and installed a new valve
cover gasket yesterday. (Suggestions on an easy to use torque wrench
are hereby solicited.) As list recommended I used a bit O permatex high
heat copper gasket sealer around the rounded pieces front and back.
The intake and x cams are works of art.
I was cleaning the cover prior to reinstall and decided that the inside
could stand a cleaning too. So I hauled out the ole eurovac steam
cleaner and spent 40 minutes washing baked on dino oil off the inside.
This begs the question "how sic is it to clean the INSIDE of the motor?"
I also learned that the hose out of the valve cover front into the
intake does not take air out from under the valve cover but is merely
the continuation of the pipe from the crankcase (I think) that comes in
from the back of the valve cover. There is a pipe under the valve cover
that makes this possible.
Next up for this long weekend should be the fmic install if I can hide
from HH chores.
Cheer's
Bill m ~ slip sliding away with little piles of kitty litter in my
driveway.
