Subject: [s-cars] About exhausts

My 94 S4 has the stock exhaust system and i've been eyeing it up for a
change. I don't intend to go nuts on this car, id like to leave it with just
a chip and filter. Has anyone simply deleted the stock center muffler on
this car and what was the result? For $35 i can have the local muffler shop
remove it and install a pipe. Just wondering if it gets too noisy. I'm sure
the turbo would appreciate the less restriction too. Your thoughts??

Rolf-

My "I haven't tried it on this car myself" answer...

Yes and no. I used this approach to great success on a number of cars
(242GT, E28 M5, 300E, etc.) but was met with OHMYGAWSH loud / horrifically
unacceptable garbagy noise on my 2.3-16. I still cringe at the thought
(turned around, welded in a straight through glasspack to mimic the
resonator, sounded amazing).

I'd 'speculate' that the UrS might allow this to work being that it's a
turbo and inherently muffled a bit as such. Hopefully there are those here
who have actually tried it on the car so I can stop talking out my backside
(which others here will assuredly remind me of). Thought I'd share my
overall findings on it though, it 'can' work very nicely, sounds good when
it does.

YMMV, HTH, blahblahblah (BBB?), let us know should you do it, curious.
