Low voltage is not going to cause increased current through the device.
The POS drives the coil which is not a constant power device it is a
constant impedance device.
When the supply voltage is low the current will also be low.

As far as taking the temperature of the POS, we would need to know the spec
of the POS to know if it was being violated.
