Hap:

I recall your earlier post and intend to replace the K&N at the next service.  Haven't been driving any of the cars much with the home office, but that will change with the new job in Houston.  I was going to check if Amsoil has a suitable filter for the cars.

On the urq, which I've had open more often, in the past, I noted some grit past the filter.  I've also run K&N and other more free-flow filters on other cars.  I had a pair on a seriously modified Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, after running nylon mesh filter elements prior to the K&N's.  Of course, that was through good ole dual-dual Webbers, but when I sold the car it had just under 180k on it and compression at the upper end of new spec, so I decided that the grit wasn't doing much, if any, damage.  FI is a whole 'nother ball game.

  I will once again share my finding on the K&N filter. I had one on my car while I still ran the stock air box, with RAIS(ram air intake system) of course. When Dave Jones pulled that out to mount the PBMAF mit Ford SVT Snorkel box we noticed the leading edge of the inducer had been damaged with lots of little pit marks. It was from the left over bits that the K&N didn't filter out. I ended up taking the turbo to TEC for a rebuild. There is also the possibility of damaging the hot coil from too much oil when you clean/service the filter.

  Hap, no longer usin K&N but FORD stock filters in Evahboost, Maguire
