Joe: I see nobody responded to you. I was on the road and missed your
post. The answer is "Yes". I suspect by now, your fuel pump may have
failed. I ignored the warning signs - first the whine and then, one
day, a hard cold start and, then, the next day, fine and then... I took
my car on a road trip but a ferry access only trip. Drove to my
meeting. Stopped the car. Came out 5 hours later (10:30 PM). No go.
Cranked like the devil but it would not start. Had to overnight. Flat
bed (actually dolly) the car 20 miles to the nearest dealer (er,
stealer). $800 CDN and 4 days later, new fuel pump.

Lesson: Be proactive and change the fuel pump with your non-stealer
mechanic before it fails and strands you. (There is a special tool to
remove and lock the fuel pump into the tank - or SO I was told). (I
changed the one on my wife's Jetta without any problems).

Bon chance.
