Mike, your alarm is out of sync with the door locks, you have two alternatives to re-sync the system:

Method #1 (suggested by Dan Hussey):

1. Unlock the car with the remote (the alarm sets "ON")
2. Open the drivers door.
3. Pop the hood but don't lift it. Lifting it will activate the alarm.
4. Leaving the driver's door open, lock the car using the remote (the alarm
sets "OFF", the drivers door stays unlocked, all other doors lock).
5. Lift the hood. Remove the cover from the relay box and remove circuit
breaker A2. This cuts power off the alarm/central locking system.
6. Wait a couple of minutes. Unlock the passenger door with the key. Unlock
the rear doors by pulling the lock buttons up. Shut the drivers door.
7. Re-install breaker A2. Replace the relay box cover. Shut the hood.
8. The alarm is now re-powered in the "OFF" position and the doors are
unlocked. Lock the doors using the key and immediately unlock using the
remote.
9. Lock the doors using the remote and the alarm should set.

Method #2 (suggested by Fred Munro):

1. Remove back seat bottom
2. Open right rear door.
3. Lock car with key or remote.
4. Disconnect battery.
5. Unlock car with key.
6. Reconnect battery.

Cheers, /James.

Subject: [s-cars] Strange Electronics - Burglar Alarm Locking Me In

Hi folks - I have some odd things going on electronically and could use some
advice. I have a '92 S4 that has been locking me inside the car and won't
allow me to start the car. The sequence goes roughly like this: Unlock the
car with the key, hop inside, close the door, the alarm sets and doors
automatically lock. Then the starter won't engage when turning the key in
the ignition. In order to get it started, I need to turn the key to "on",
then roll down the window and unlock the car from the outside using the key.
This then allows the starter to engage. I was thinking the battery might be
suspect and purchased a new one, but I continue to have the same symptoms.
Additionally, the IR key now no longer works.

I'm hoping there's some sort of burglar alarm reset that will get the locks
and ignition back in synch and another method to get the IR key to work
again.

Any insight appreciated.
