It sounds like it is the controller motor... located next to the windshield
wiper motor. Not too hard to get to: remove panels, remove windshield wipers
and motor, remove cover plate and you're there.

But with the controller having problems too, I would get a used (and
guaranteed) one from Shokan, NY. (800.ALL-AUDI) They helped me out when I
had a 5000 with a bad controller. I use them a lot.
