[s-cars] Spark Plug Torque (was: Oil plug and dynamite)

Hello //S-heads:

I just replaced my plugs for the first time today, having only had the car
for a couple of months. I too am working on the ever-popular "miss
at >3,000 RPM" problem as are several other listers. Thanks to the wisdom
of others on the list, I was able to figure out where to look for the
problem...and thanks to ETKA, I knew where to look for the plugs
themselves! Happily I was not fooled by the injectors masquerading as
plugs. ;-)

Although this made the problem only marginally better, I was concerned at
the condition of the old plugs--specifically, they are quite carbon-coated
and not the nice, tan color that one expects. In most engines, this is an
indication of an over-rich condition. The only thing I could imagine to do
about this would be to check/replace the air cleaner, which appears to
require either major surgery or at least putting the car up on a hydraulic
lift to replace. Any of the more experienced UrS car owners car to comment?

Thanks!

Marc
