Rolf-
My car is black and it has held up quite well over the years- I need to
spray the
front end due to stone chips and I could probably go for a full respray,
but it looks
pretty good even now.

Please let me know off-list who this guy is that can paint the whole car
for $1400- is
that a full "strip the trim and stuff off the car and paint" type of
repaint or is it
a "mask and tape" job like Maaco?

If you're doing a full repaint, I'd do a black basecoat, multi-step
pearl mid and a couple
coats of clear on top. That would look nice.

ok, i gotta do it... My 94 S4 has lousy paint. It has checks in the
paint that go through to the primer and can't be sanded out. I've
decided to simply have the whole car painted. The Audi dealer wanted
nearly $4000 and that's not gonna happen. A reputable hot-rod
restorer/painter says he can do a nice job for $1200-$1400. I know he
does decent work, he did my 69 conv. camaro and it looks good. I'm just
wondering if anyone has any inside info on S4's of this era and why the
black paint didn't seem to hold up. Before i go dropping the $$$ i'd
like the paint shop to have as much info as possible. Also, non metallic
black was stock, just wondering if anyone tinkered with adding metallic
or some other colors to the black to set it off a little? It goes in
4/12... let me know! Thanks!!
