If your paint is checked, you'll have to sand the entire car down into the
primer to get a decent result on the repaint. $1400 seems to be a bit light
for that kind of work.

Subject: [s-cars] Painting a Black S4 ????

ok, i gotta do it... My 94 S4 has lousy paint. It has checks in the paint
that go through to the primer and can't be sanded out. I've decided to
simply have the whole car painted. The Audi dealer wanted nearly $4000 and
that's not gonna happen. A reputable hot-rod restorer/painter says he can do
a nice job for $1200-$1400. I know he does decent work, he did my 69 conv.
camaro and it looks good. I'm just wondering if anyone has any inside info
on S4's of this era and why the black paint didn't seem to hold up. Before i
go dropping the $$$ i'd like the paint shop to have as much info as
possible. Also, non metallic black was stock, just wondering if anyone
tinkered with adding metallic or some other colors to the black to set it
off a little? It goes in 4/12... let me know! Thanks!!
