[s-cars] dash light oddities

Need list wisdom:

Dash lights suddenly decide to be possessed upon one weekend startup.
Entire IC as well as CC unit now suffer bipolar multiple personality
disorder (or is that me?) and now come on and off, 99.999999% entirely, at
random.  

I say 99.9% as there remains a faint glow from the odometer / outside temp
gauge, and random as in no attempts at wiggling, jiggling, hitting (all
technically, of course) altered this affect.  Lame, was hoping it would
have.  CC unit still operative but can only read the 'dayglow'.  Odd, all
the push buttons in the row above the CC until remain lit regardless.  

So, what switch, knob, stalk, relay, wire, fuse, etc. item F'd the pooch
this time?  Been too long since something broke, so, I should have expected
this...
