if you're willing to spend about $5k on a supercharger and some
ancillaries, you can easily make over 400 rwhp. the DOHC 4.6 has
a strong bottom end.

which mustang are you talking about? i'll assume you mean the
fairmont-derived mustangs from '79-'04, and not the older ones.
the platform isn't very sophisticated, although ford has refined it
over the years.

however, the mustang is lighter and doesn't have the engine hanging out
in front of the front axle. the stock suspension is mediocre, but
suspension modifications are fairly cheap and easy to do. you can
also get a lot more tire under a mustang than an audi. 275/40/17 is
par for the course, and i've seen people with 335s in the back. you
can make up for a lot of suspension sins by adding more tire. the
audi doesn't have room for anything bigger than a 255, and even that's a
stretch.

i am not sure that the mustang's suspension geometry is significantly
worse than a stock UrS. the triangulated antiroll bar as a trailing
arm is a real hose. my admittedly modified '87 mustang will go around
corners a lot faster than my '92 S4, with much less understeer and body
roll.

for bad weather driving, i'll agree - the audi excels in that area.
the audi definitely has better traction, and it has more power than the
mustang (which has a completely stock engine with 170k miles). however,
given a choice between the mustang and the audi at a track like thunderhill
or sears point, i'll take the mustang if the weather's good.
