actually, the IRS showed up on the '99 cobra and all cobras have had
IRS since then.

on a smooth track, IRS isn't necessarily a clear advantage over a
well-tuned solid axle.  trans-am race cars and NASCAR stockers use
solid axles.

i'll give you a few reasons: suspension geometry, engine not hanging
out in front of the front wheels, ability to put bigger tires on.

rather than debating this, you might find it more fun to go test-drive
a mustang cobra at the dealer.  :)
