The fact is, I already have a big Audi sedan. I don't need a second one,
unless it is to replace the first. Nothing that Audi has offered in
recent
years (2000 or newer) has the raw power and the handling to make for a
really
_fun_ track and autox car as well as a _fun_ daily driver, IMHO.
The reason I'm looking hard at the IRS equipped Cobras is because I want
the
car to be able to handle bumps without getting too upset, one notable
problem
that I've heard of the solid axle cars.
The relatively cheap power upgrades and much higher baseline power is a
big
factor as well- only the Camaro, Vette, Evo and WRX STi are comparable
in this
regard. The first three are other options that I'm looking at.
Unless you can post lap times that prove your point, there's no way
you're
going to convince me that any stock US-market Audi can beat a stock SVT
Cobra on a road
course.

actually, the IRS showed up on the '99 cobra and all cobras have had IRS
since then.
on a smooth track, IRS isn't necessarily a clear advantage over a
well-tuned solid axle. trans-am race cars and NASCAR stockers use solid
axles.
i'll give you a few reasons: suspension geometry, engine not hanging out
in front of the front wheels, ability to put bigger tires on.
rather than debating this, you might find it more fun to go test-drive a
mustang cobra at the dealer. :)
