Wouldn't Emre's suggestion of a carbon/Kevlar matrix be a better way to go? Doesn't billet have to come from a solid block of aluminum and thus this cover would be way over $100... I'm sure there are company's out there that could make this piece in large quantities?

Mark: After I sent my post last night, I did think about a metal TB guard.
However, in my mind it was expanded aluminum mesh. In retrospect, that
probably wouldn't work - solid, i.e. billet aluminum, like you are suggesting
