And how much for the non BB GT35? Last I heard it was in the
neighborhood of $750. Not double the price, but certainly a VERY pricey
option.

I must not have explained my project very well.
At present I've got a grand total of about $600 in parts into my 20vt
motor (which includes things like a head gasket and timing belt kit). I
did this by sticking with cheap junkyard parts (in otherwise good used
condition). I honestly don't know how much abuse this motor will put up
with. The bottom end is a bone stock 2.3 as found in an NG/NF and the
head is equally bone stock from a 7A engine. My goal is to reach 400whp
with this motor.
If the motor holds up to the abuse I'll be ecstatic. But I need to be
realistic and think about what happens if it lets go before reaching my
goal. I assume the head and block will be scrap metal and I pretty much
should plan on a turbo rebuild. Things like EM, IM, fuel injectors,
radiator, etc, etc I don't mind spending time/money on because they
aren't likely to be eaten by a motor on its way out. By keeping the
build cost low I can laugh as opposed to cry should the motor decide it
doesn't want to play anymore.
Call me crazy, but I've already been down the "build it right the first
time" road with the first motor (a built up 10vt) and I've decided to
approach things from a different angle this time. I'm opting for the
"build it cheap the first time, build it again but $tronger so it
doesn't blow up again the second time" approach. The goal _is_ to have
fun and go fast, right? :)

I don't have numbers though. Any insight here? I should just give the
guys at TEC a call.
> Fourth, the GT35R goes significantly above 500hp.
I don't disagree. I believe the numbers I was quoting were for the GT35
(nonBB, non 'R'). The Garrett catalog lists the GT35R for applications
up to 600hp. The GT35 (nonBB) is listed for 260-510hp.
