The weight of the mirror makes it tough to restick it to the glass. The mirror and the part that actually sticks to the glass will come apart where the ball on the mounting "stalk" meets the socket in the mirror itself. CAREFULLY pull them apart -- it would probably help to put the mirror out in the sun, so that the plastic is not cold and brittle
(sitting on the dashboard, with the car parked outside would work).
Once the two are apart, you can refasten the "stalk", after cleaning all traces of the old adhesive off the stalk and glass. Any good mirror adhesive from the auto parts store should work. Helps to mark the spot where the stalk should go on the OUTSIDE of the windshield (a magic marker works fine), before you clean up the old adhesive with a razor
blade. Apply adhesive and lots of pressure for a couple of minutes (or, until you lose interest) and let it set overnight. Carefully reattach the mirror and go.
Make son ride in back seat from now on. :-)
