Igor: The bearing is a minor form of failure (that probably gives an audible warning for a few days before the actual failure). My serpentine belt tensioner failed because the clock spring case cracked open and therefore, there was no spring force to provide the belt tension. (In retrospect, the initial crack was old (but I didn't/couldn't see it from above)).
