Paul,
I looked into having my trans rebuilt and after collecting as much info as
possible decided against it. The final and decision-making opinion came
from a mechanic who used to do the transmissions at the local dealership.
He said he couldn't do the job in his new shop because he needed some
specialized tools, and even with the tools, the cost of rebuilding was hard
to justify. I know there are some rebuilt transmissions out there working
well (there's even a rebuild that will convert a 5-speed to a 6-speed) but I
suspect it would cost at least $1000.
