[s-cars] EMRE: turbo flanges et al.

Hum, thanks Hap. I hadn't thought of it this way. Seems counter intuitive
at first, but as one thinks about is it could make sense that with a larger
turbo and, presumably a larger exducer bore etc. in the hot side scroll you
would be moving more gas past the blades without the need to provide as much
pressure release by bypassing them.
I supposed a smaller bore could also be argued to also provide more control
"resolution" Certainly as a WG valve gets bigger, I can see where you would
start to get an "On/Off" sort of pressure delivery/control. Of course the
above only makes sense to me if I'm correct in the assumption that the
current WGFV & is APEX'i AVCR counterpart are capable of delivering
"partial" relief modulation ~ if that's the case, the parts involved must be
balanced (i.e. tunned) in some fashion to work properly together.
Sounds like what one needs is a pressure gauge/sensor/port plumbed into the
either the exhaust manifold or turbine scroll and a way to plot exhaust
manifold/hotside scroll turbine propulsion pressures against intake manifold
boost and WGFV duty cycles.
Since our WG don't vent to atmosphere, I wonder what other, if any
adjustments, are made to allow for post turbo exhaust pipe pressure? I do
know I've seen "general" recommendations &/or comments that WG gases be
brought back into the primary exhaust gas stream as far downstream from the
turbo as possible.

If and when we do figure out the actual measurement, I do have an
explanation if it is smaller. On higher boost applications, you don't want a
bigger hole. You want a smaller hole since less of the exhaust is going to
be vented out the wastegate. I've been researching wastegates for my new
tubular manifold on the Tial website. I'm probably going to stick with the
stock WG.
