S-fellows -

I just received my new Serp tensioner from Carlson Audi, who were infinitely more amenable to my business than the stealer 15 minutes from my house.

I have read previously about rebuilding these; how it requires drilling out rivets and replacing with screws. I looked briefly at my old tensioner, and this seemed to be the case for rebuilding it. I will verify this when I get home.

This new tensioner, however, is different. The center bearing is now covered with a pry-off cap, exposing what looks to be about a T6 Torx screw. If I had a new bearing, and was by a bearing press, I would estimate it should take no more than ten minutes to have a refurbished tensioner (wheel at least).

The part number for this bearing is:

NTN 6203LHA

Interestingly, the cast aluminum housing has a date stamp of 1/00. The little pry off cap reads 3/03. The housing does not show evidence of being previously mounted, but this does look as if Audi - or someone - is rebuilding them.

At a tidy profit I might add.
