[s-cars] Reducing 'Negative Boost' Anyone?

I hate feeding engines hot air. I don't see how anyone can put an air
filter in the engine compartment, especially anywhere near the exhaust
manifold and turbo, although I know a lot of listers do; when the engine
needs cool air the most, the inlet temp would be the highest. And you can't
just take air from anywhere you want, you sure don't want to get it from a
low pressure region. Finding good spots to pull from does require some
science. I feel a Magnehelic coming on...

> Does the air take have to be "ram air" as in using a snorkel facing
forward? Or could the airbox just ahve a bigger hole in it, a la cone
filters - that is drawing air in from within engine compartment - assuming
isolation to heated air from rest of engine compartment can be achieved. Or
how about a hose, of large diameter, facing towards back of car extracting
air form somewhere near the axles?

anywhere, as long as it is not heated by engine/turbo etc.

gates came down. .pdfs from listers from now on, or pay da man.

air (and water and sand) in a few inches off the ground. I've done a pretty
nifty fab using the oil cooler duct & some (stiff) dryer hose - when it was
all done I decided to think about it some more before I installed it. How
about a big hood scoop.... ;-)
