[s-cars] fan clutch replacement

Hi Richard;

I replaced the fan clutch on my '94 S4 the last time I did my timing belt.
You don't need to remove the front end but you will need to remove the lock
plate to get enough access. You'll need a pin wrench to hold the pulley
stationary and a 32 mm open end wrench to remove the clutch. The pin wrench
has 5 mm pins. The factory 32 mm wrench takes a 1/2" drive torque wrench at
the other end to torque the bolt. I bought the factory wrench and made the
pin wrench. It took quite a bit of force to break my clutch loose. I didn't
do a separate write-up on this because I did it as part of the t-belt job.

I bought my clutch at the dealer - I think it was around C$170.

If you need more info, let me know.

Subject: [s-cars] fan clutch replacement

S-Heads,

I have to replace the fan clutch on the 94 S4...I did a search in the
archives on AW, but did not find the help I need.

Is there a write up procedure somewhere? I'm wondering if I'll need to
remove the front end of the car or if there's an easy solution...Will I need
special tools? I read something about a fan clutch holder tool...

For those who already did that replacement, any advice? It should take how
long to complete the job?

Best place to buy the part? In Canada if possible

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Richard.
