[s-cars] Spark Plug Torque

WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! The A/S thread warning klaxon blares from the computer
speakers and in a quick rush the room is empty.

Actually, John, I must confess to using a small amount of high-temp nickel
antiseize on my plug threads and using a torque wrench (beam, not
shoot-and-click for this job) to tighten them to 22 ft.lb. I've had good
results so far. Many years ago I was introduced to the joys of aluminium
heads when a friend brought over his air-cooled Beetle ("my mechanic won't
take out the plugs") - man, were they seized in there. I've used antiseize
on aluminium heads ever since.

Subject: [s-cars] Spark Plug Torque

I have always used the following procedure for torquing spark plugs, in all
my Audis and Porsches and other aluminum cylinder head engines.

1. Insure that the internal threads are clean, chase them if needed.
2. (here we go) Always use an antiseize on the plugs, there are Catalytic
Converter compatible antisieze materials out there!
3. Screw the sparkplug in finger tight with the end of the extension as the
tool with which you apply the torque.
4. Tighten the Spark plug an additional 90 degrees of rotation with your
Wrench Handle.

You are done! Never had a plug back out, always come out easily next time!
Been doing it like this for 40 years no problems ever.

Remember what you are doing is crushing the Washer to a specified thickness.
