Is this a new installation? If so, the Spec clutch (and any hp clutch)
needs at least 500 miles of tender driving. If you don't it will get glazed
over and won't be right until you drive another 5 to 10k miles. The fastest
way to get the clutch broken in is an easy 500 miles. The more you slip it
the longer it will take to break it in.
I went through this about a year ago when my mechanic said it really slipped
bad and though something was wrong. Spec told me what I just said above.
They were right. I think these peaky turbos make it easy to smoke the fresh
clutches.

Clutch from Spec...
Problem, can't hold much power.
Clutch slips in 2nd , 3rd etc... starts at about 16 PSI boost.
I know that there has been problems with the spec clutches, what where they
?
Does this sound like ohh too familiar of a storey ?
Did anyone get their labor to re and re it a second time reimbursed ?
Any good lawyers (I know, no such thing...) on the list in Florida wanna
make some money :-)
I knew I should have stuck with centerforce.....
Any help greatly appreciated.

Mark-
1st... d'oh. Resist urge to revert to the Mahoney Step One... don't look
into the light.
B) Jack's pretty much right from what I've heard / experienced. Tho in my
case I *did* go 'easy' with it for at least 1k, let alone a mere 500 miles.
Clutch was a bit grabby right thru 10k and then got realreal nice. On that
note, that's my guess on all the grabby SPEC clutches Hap's experienced,
likely not done breaking in yet. What's a cool 10k anyway (for me like f'n
4 months heh heh). ANYwho... my definition of 'easy' was no hard launches
or engagements, didn't matter, it was grabby to and thru 10k. With the CMG
going in at same time I couldn't be toooo 'easy' with it, but that was more
related to powerband and not engagement 8-).
Now, slipping on the other hand, hmmm, that's troubling. Did you hammer on
it during break in? Maybe then it would be glazed. If not, I'd quickly
worry you gots the wrong pressure plate (thanks f'n SPEC hillbilly sister
fuhckers). Tho in my case where it was wrong, it wouldn't disengage right
and car wasn't really driveable (had to mash pedal thru firewall to get it
to disengage). It wasn't a case of slippage.
Did you do your rear main seal at same time? Maybe it pinched and has
pissed onto disc?
Keep us posted. And, um, no, SPEC told me to pound sand on the Step One
labor (remove trans) even tho they admitted they'd f'd me. Nice. Tim and
the NEA gang took good care of me instead, good for them. I'd say you're
alone brutha...
-Paul SPEC clutch rulez now and love da feeling but boy I guess I'm lucky K.
