Evan,

Sorry to frop into the thread late. Sounds like I had the exact same problem. I
had a bad crimp fitting on one of the lines, at first the dealer said he would fix
it, then he determined that it was not in the location of the recall line and that
you can't just buy the line (earlier models have a different design), so in my case
I would have to buy the entire fuel rail to the tune of about 500 bucks.

I also tried the hydraulic repair shops in my area and all I got was a song and
dance, no one wanted to touch it with a ten foot pole. After all the time I was
spending trying to find a shop to do it, I almost approached the cost of the
dealer item.

Exasperated I talked it over with my local wrench who suggested that we just cut
off the crimp fitting to see if there was a barb on the metal line underneath.
Sho' nuff there was, and a 25 cent hose clamp promptly went on. The dealer
had the opinion that this would be an inferior repair, perhaps, but I checked my
trusty 3 series BMW and it has clamps on the fuel lines. Don't sue my behind,
but you may want to consider this option.

Good luck.
