luckily, i haven't had this problem, but i just wanted to add that it's
common to use clamps to attach fuel hoses (even for high pressure fuel 
injection lines) to barbed hardline.  my miatas have them, too.  this
seems like a reasonable workaround, as long as you use fuel injection hose
and clamp properly.
