Ran Road America with the chgo alfa club .. sat and Sunday.
First run I lost a rear lug bolt. party over? No cuz the only other
audi owner / spectator happened to have a spare bolt in the set he
carried for his winter wheels:) Some prior monkey lad had used AS to my
dismay some time ago and needless to say I was not and will not be a
proponent of this.
Then, at the end of my next run yes I found my lone bolt right at the
turn off from the pits.. What were the odds on that?
Last run on Saturday, I experienced a semi limp mode coming out of turn
three where engine would idle but die if any power were applied. I
limped all the way down to turn five where I could exit and ponder my
dilemma and wonder how much the flat bed costs from Elkhart Lake to
chgo.
But alas a little looking revealed der blown hose connection turbo to
fmic:/
Did I bring another hose clamp I wonder? Maybe. Hummpf. Five minutes
later the turn three corner worker pulls up and hands me the clamp. Can
you kiss a corner worker I wonder? (btw I had brought another clamp )
Sunday morning, cars running well but has a getting worse stumble gear
three out of turns under load. :/ WTF
Let car cool. Remove plugs. Number two Bosch 5PDFxxx has the ground
electrode completely gone! Gone I tell ya. I wonder where it went?
Vaporized I hope. Did I bring an extra plug? I don't think so. Party
over. But wait deep in the tool box still in a box is an old used but
serviceable plug:) Nice Dagger number three dodged!
Why is everyone else sitting around having fun chit chatting whilst I'm
trying to make my car run I wonder.
Moral of the story is of course check your stuff well before a track
event.
My time came in at a personal best 2:57 which I thought pretty good for
an old guy driving a pig that he also hopes to drive to work tomorrow.
I think a good driver could take 15 seconds off this time, but he would
no doubt be younger and pay less attention to walls n things.
There was a Carrera GT there with a claimed time of 2:50. Tell me that
guy wasn't being careful. Hah! Oh what a sound that car makes! Think
F1 refined.
I have some pictures I'll post... well as soon as I can. Lotta folks
stopped by to see whats up with this old audi station wagon that seems
to be pretty fast. I started with the C group cause I was breaking in
some new pads and passed many, but no one passed me. Moved up then to
my proper B group and passed a couple, but no one passed me.
Note to self.. get that oil cooler installed;)

Damn Bill... driving it so hard n fast to have parts flying off your car...
only to return like a boomerang. Next you'll tell us your clear corner
marker will get sucked off (likely somewhere in the CT vortex that seemed to
exist here for many) only to be found at the end of your driveway or
something.

Great report (esp. the tow bill pondering and spark plug particle
ingestion), sounds fun you bastage. Running with Carrera GT's... oh my...
must have been magical to behold.

Keep up the good work out there you nut (lugnut?). No AS of course 8-).
Where is Torsen Boy lately anyway? Been too long w/o his thoughts here...
