Actually, the Optima is an AGM battery... Absorbed Glass Mat.  It uses a
fiberous glass mat that absorbs the liquid electrolite like a sponge.  So
even if the case is punctured there is nothing to leak.

Gel-cells have a gel rather than liquid electrolite.  They have fallen out
of favor due to numerous problems, including short life and not charging
fully during normal driving in an automotive application.

AGM batteries are much better.
