All,

Jim's description of the "K" valve is quite accurate.

For starters, the "K" valve to which he refers is the Wastegate Frequency
Solenoid, commonly referred to as the Wastegate Frequency Valve. The "K"
refers to the suffix "K" in the VAG part number. Those of you that have a
US version of ETKA will not find 034 906 283 K in your catalog, because the
solenoid was designed by Eaton for use almost exclusively with the RS2
turbo. The difference between the 'K' valve and the stock 'H' valve (034
906 283 H) is the duty cycle of the solenoid.

The WGFV measures boost pressure relieved by the wastegate, and reports the
same to the ECU. The WGFV's ability to quickly and accurately meter
relieved excess boost pressure ensures that the ECU does not detect
prolonged overboost or boost spikes, to which the ECU responds by dialing
back timing. A faster duty cycle can more quickly and accurately "detect"
and report boost spikes to the ECU, while reducing the potential for the
same created by the increased charge air pressure created by the RS2 turbo.

I know of only one US vendor for the "K" valve. $90 through TJM Motorsport.

You may also want to consider using a K-valve wg frequency valve instead.
It will help your wg do it's job better and faster. Prior to install, I was
seeing similar boost values to Elijah's wife's car. Since the ECU in my car
was sensing an over-boost condition at higher revs, it was cutting back on
the timing and slowing me down-power was peaky at higher rpms. With the
K-valve, boost is rock sold at 25 psi from around 3,400 all the way to
7,000. Power is stronger and way more linear. Plus it's only about $90
with a DIY install!

HTH,
Jim

OK, so I have the RS2 performance mods, should I be thinking about
adjusting the spring?

Chris,
My wife has the full RS2 setup on her car and does not have a boost gauge
so I left the spring alone until last weekend when I hooked a gauge up just
to
see what her setup was making. Well, with the spring in the stock position
the car is making and holding 28psi to around 6000 and then backing it off
to
22psi. This is much more boost than I had expected so I left the spring
where
it is because at this level the car would start overboosting if the spring
was tightened at all. Now on my old car with a much larger turbo I had a
stiffer spring in as well as four turns and running the same SW as she is
from
Pastore would boost to around 26psi and hold 24 to redline. Even though the
car
was making much more power it was making less boost I assume because of the

large compressor wheel bringing in a more efficient charge of air. Anyway
if
you don't have a boost gauge get one before you tamper with the spring.
